## What's new in Dyson's Nurovi robot vacuums?

The biggest change is navigation. All three Nurovi models map rooms with LiDAR. WIRED notes that Dyson's previous robot relied on an HD camera to get around, and CNET describes its lab results for older Dyson robots as a mixed bag.

Dyson also redesigned how the robots pick up debris and handle edges:

- **Twin-capture system (R1 and R2).** Dyson says the brush bar mechanically sweeps larger debris into the machine, so the motor can focus on fine dust.
- **Extending side sweepers.** Dyson says the anti-tangle sweepers angle debris into the airflow instead of flicking it, and extend toward walls. On the R1 the sweeper extends 1.06 inches.
- **Acoustic dust sensing.** A piezo sensor counts and sizes dust particles and, in Auto mode, boosts suction up to 2x on the R1 when it finds more dirt.
- **Bagless cyclonic docks.** The docks use Dyson cyclones (eight on the R1, 10 on the R3) instead of disposable dust bags.

CNET framed the range as Dyson's answer to Shark's UV stain-finding robots, and the R3 is the model that takes that fight on directly.

Dyson's debris-storage figures come from its internal testing and depend on how often the robot runs and how much dirt and pet hair your home produces.

## R1 Nurovi Dry: the vacuum-only option

The R1 skips mopping entirely, so there are no water tanks or pads to clean. Dyson lists a 3.8-inch height for getting under furniture, the ability to climb 0.79-inch thresholds, an ultrasonic sensor that tells hard floors from carpet, and a silicone anti-tangle brush bar aimed at pet hair. The dock is 18.9 inches tall with a 9.6 x 9.6-inch footprint.

This is the model for carpet-heavy homes, pet hair, and anyone who would rather mop by hand than maintain a robot mop.

## R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry: corners and a Costco membership

The R2's headline feature is its mop pads. Instead of round spinning pads, Dyson uses Reuleaux triangles, a curved three-sided shape with constant width. Dyson says the pads move smoothly like a circle while their points reach into square corners and along edges that round pads miss. After each clean, the dock washes the pads with 167°F (75°C) water and dries them with 113°F (45°C) air to limit mold and odors.

WIRED called the R2 the most interesting model of the three on price, but you can only buy it at Costco. When we checked on Oct. 9, Costco.com listed the R2 as unavailable online, so look for it in warehouses. Costco lists the dock at 20.3 inches tall, 18.4 inches long, and 16.3 inches wide. Measure your spot before you buy.

## R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV: built for stains

The R3 is Dyson's top robot. Dyson says its AI stain scanner uses an HD camera, AI, and UV light to identify nearly 200 types of spills, stains, and objects. It then washes with a full-width microfiber roller that a 12-point hydration system keeps supplied with 158°F (70°C) water, rechecks the floor with UV between passes, and makes up to 15 passes on tough stains. Dyson notes that results vary with the type and severity of the stain.

Other R3 details from Dyson:

- The wet roller extends up to 1.57 inches when sensors detect a wall, and lifts 0.39 inches when the robot detects carpet.
- The dock washes the roller with 158°F water and dries it with 131°F (55°C) air on a three-hour cycle.
- The dock can auto-dose Dyson's 02 Probiotic hard floor cleaning solution, which is sold separately.
- Dyson says the stain-detection AI runs on the robot itself, without cloud processing or images stored on the robot.

The tradeoffs are size and price. The R3 weighs 14.6 pounds, its dock is 18.6 inches tall, 20.1 inches long, and 17.4 inches wide, and it was out of stock on Dyson.com at $1,199.99 as of Oct. 9.

## Reliability, warranty, and repairability

These robots have been on sale for only a few weeks, so there is no long-term reliability data. Here is what you can check today.

**Warranty.** Costco lists a 2-year warranty for the R2. Dyson's US warranty terms say coverage applies only to machines bought from Dyson or an authorized seller. On Amazon, Dyson names "Amazon.com" as an authorized seller, so check the seller before you buy. The terms also exclude normal wear parts such as filters and brush bars, as well as blockages and damage from misuse. Dyson's US warranty page does not list robot vacuums by name, so confirm the term for your model when you register it in the MyDyson app.

**Service.** Under its new "Never Without Your Dyson" program, Dyson says it will offer a complimentary loan machine if a repair can't be finished right away, and in-store servicing at select Dyson Stores and Service Centers.

**Recalls.** We found no CPSC recall for any Dyson robot vacuum as of Oct. 9, 2026. If you buy later, search [CPSC recalls](https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls) for your model.

## Who should buy a Dyson Nurovi, and who should skip it?

**Choose the R1 Nurovi Dry if you:**

- Have mostly carpet or rugs, or simply don't want a robot mop
- Deal with long hair or pet hair and want a tangle-resistant brush bar
- Want a bagless self-emptying dock with a small footprint

**Choose the R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry if you:**

- Want vacuuming and mopping for under the R3's price
- Have hard floors with lots of square corners and cabinet toe kicks
- Already have a Costco membership

**Choose the R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV if you:**

- Have large hard-floor areas with frequent spills, such as kitchens with kids or pets
- Want the robot to recheck and rescrub stains rather than make one pass
- Have room for a larger dock and don't mind waiting for stock

**Skip the Nurovi range for now if you:**
