About Appliance Insider

Appliance Insider publishes practical, safety-first information about home appliances: how to troubleshoot and repair them, how to maintain them, and how to choose new ones.

What we cover

  • Buying guides, comparisons, and new releases: research focused on reliability, repairability, and value. See our methodology.
  • Repair guides and troubleshooting: step-by-step checks homeowners can do safely, and clear lines on when to stop.
  • Error codes: plain-English explanations based on manufacturer documentation.
  • Maintenance: routine tasks that prevent the most common service calls. See the maintenance calendar.

Editorial standards

  • Accuracy first. Technical claims are checked against manufacturer manuals and support documentation, government and standards bodies (for example NFPA, U.S. FDA, ENERGY STAR), or hands-on repair experience. We link primary sources in a "Sources" section.
  • No invented numbers. We do not publish statistics, prices, quotes, or test results we cannot source.
  • Safety. Every repair guide tells you to disconnect power, gas, and water as appropriate, and flags work that should be done by a licensed technician (gas lines, sealed refrigerant systems, high-voltage components).
  • Model-specific caveats. Appliances vary by model. We say when a step or code applies only to certain models and point you to your owner's manual.
  • Dates you can trust. Every article shows its publish date, and a "Last updated" date when we revise it.
  • Independence of advice. Affiliate commissions never decide what we recommend. If a cheap fix solves the problem, that is what we tell you.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and update the "Last updated" date. Substantive corrections are noted at the end of the article. Send corrections to support@applianceinsider.org.

How we make money

Some articles link to products on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases; see our affiliate disclosure. We also recommend a repair service, VIA Appliance, for readers in its service area. VIA Appliance is a featured repair partner of Appliance Insider. Read how we choose recommended pros.
